CALL FOR STUDENT PERFORMERS
A Just and Joyful Future
By Suzanne Kite
The Vera List Center for Art and Politics invites New School students to join composer Suzanne Kite in performing A Just and Joyful Future, a new score built from the dreams of the VLC community, at the Vera List Center Forum 2026: Matter of Intelligence.
Students of any acoustic instrument are welcome—strings, winds, brass, percussion, voice—as are those who don’t consider themselves musicians at all. No prior experience with contemporary or graphic scores is required. The piece is written to be realized collectively: participants will receive the score and guidance in advance, and will rehearse together before the performance on Friday, October 9 at the VLC Forum 2026 as part of the Community Dinner, Dream Futures.
The score interprets responses to a single question—What is your dream for the future of the VLC?—and expands on October 9 to include the dreams of everyone in the room. Your participation shapes what the piece becomes.

Deadline: Monday, September 28
Rehearsal: Day of event, with onboarding via Zoom one week prior
Performance: Friday, October 9, at the Bernard and Irene Schwartz Commons Cafeteria, University Center, 63 Fifth Avenue, 2nd Floor
