Apr 18, 2013

6:30–8:00pm ET

The New School, The Wollman Hall
65 West 11th Street

Rifky Effendy speaks at Independent Curators International’s (ICI) Curator’s Perspective, an itinerant public discussion series that features international curators who distill current happenings in contemporary art, including the artists they are excited by, exhibitions that have made them think, and their views on recent developments in the art world.

ICI developed the Curator’s Perspective as a way for international curators to share their research and experiences with audiences in New York. These talks provide ICI the opportunity to assemble documents on and disseminate information about a wide variety of international perspectives on art today.

Rifky Effendy is the curator of the Indonesian Pavilion for the 2013 Venice Biennale. From 2002 to 2008 he was curator of Jakarta’s Cemara 6 Galeri. He has edited and contributed to several publications including Tempo, Visual Arts, and Art Asia Pacific magazines as well as Indonesia’s newspaper of record, Kompas. Recent curatorial projects include FLOW: Contemporary Art from Indonesia, Michael Janssen Gallery, Berlin (2012); Fixer, North Art Space, Jakarta, Indonesia (2010); In Between, The First Jakarta Contemporary Ceramics Biennale, North Art Space, Jakarta (2009); South East B(L)ooming, Primo Marella Gallery, Milan, Italy (2008); KOI and TRINACRIA by Filippo Sciascia and Robert Coda Zabetta, National Gallery of Indonesia, Jakarta (2008); Pilgrim Project by Dadang Christanto, Gaya Fusion Artspace, Bali (2006); Trans-Indonesia, Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, New Plymouth, New Zealand (2005); Imagining Jakarta, sponsored by the Goethe Institute, Jakarta (2004); and Yasumasa Murimura, Cemeti Art House, Yogyakarta, Gaya Fusion and Sense, Bali, Solo and Soemardja Gallery, Bandung (2001); and Wearable, Galeripadi Bandung, Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta and Sika Art Gallery in Bali (1999).
