David Randolph Distinguished Artists-in-Residence String Trio of New York
Nov 8, 2000
6:00–8:00pm ET
Each year, The New School honors a distinguished artist and offers the public an unique opportunity to interact with him or her. A generous gift from The St.Cecilia Chorus has endowed this program in the name of David Randolph, its conductor since 1965, who taught at The New School 1973-1990, for his life of commitment to music making and music education. This year’s distinguished artists-in-residence are the New York String Trio. Imagine a jazz ensemble that moves between the 17th and 21st centuries, from baroque to dissonant harmonies – described by a critic as “East Village meets MENSA.” Through their “Human” series, the trio explores how music connects with philosophy, science, psychology, and the visual arts.
