Firewalls: The Individual in a Maximum Security Society

Oct 4, 2004

6:30–8:00pm ET

The New School, Theresa Lang Community and Student Center

Security is no longer a global issue exclusively. It’s now local. What does this imply? What are the technologies of detection and deterrence, what are the implications of risk-profiling and prediction? In this panel discussion, we explore the permissibility of firewalls, the manufacturing of a homeland (both abroad and in the U.S.), information flows, power bunkers, and the erotics of surveillance technology.

Participants
Timothy Druckrey, independent curator and critic, writer on media history, representation, and ideologies of technology
Andrew Hultkrans, Former Editor-In-Chief of BookForum, author of a forthcoming book on surveillance in America
