In the U.S., modern dance has deep roots in the African-American culture. We present a discussion, illustrated by slides and video, of the role of Blacks in American dance past and present.

In its 28th season, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company performs a repertory that spans the history of modern dance, including some rarely seen classic works by African-American choreographers.

Participants
Joe Nash, archivist of Black dance
Ron Brown, choreographer
Jeraldyne Blunden, artistic director, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company
