Entitled I Stand in My Place with My Own Day Here: Site-Specific Art at The New School, this new anthology features essays by more than fifty renowned international writers who consider thirteen monumental works of art created for The New School between 1930 and today. The nucleus of The New School Art Collection, these commissions — among the finest site-specific works in New York City — range from murals by José Clemente Orozco to installations by Agnes Denes, Alfredo Jaar, Sol LeWitt, Glenn Ligon, Kara Walker, and Martin Puryear with Michael Van Valkenburgh, among others.

With readings and performances at three campus installation sites – the José Clemente Orozco, Kara Walker, and Agnes Denes commissions – the celebratory evening is organized by The New School Art Collection and Parsons Curatorial Design Research Lab.

Our guide is artist and poet Carl Hancock Rux, with a performance by award-winning choreographer Edisa Weeks; a commissioned composition by jazz musician and New School professor Dave Douglas with students from The New School's College of Performing Arts; and readings by book contributors including Aruna D'Souza, artist and VLC Fellow Andrea Geyer, cultural historian and New School professor Julia Foulkes, and fashion hacktivist and Parsons professor Otto von Busch.

A reception follows in the University Center, the location of Agnes Denes' sweeping 2016 installation titled Pascal's Perfect Probability Pyramid & the People Paradox—The Predicament (PPPPPPP).
